About The Children

All adoptable children in China have special needs.  Some of China’s waiting children have special needs that can be treated or corrected in the U.S. and have not been addressed in the orphanage due to lack of resources.  We have waiting children that we are happy to talk to you about! Children are between the ages of 1 and 15 at the time of referral. At this time, 70% of the children currently waiting are boys.

Eligibility

Parents must be a married heterosexual couple or a single female with no more than two divorces. Married couples must be married for two years.
Parents must be 30 years of age or older, with no more than 50 years between the youngest parent and the child.
Adoptive parents must not have more than 5 children in the home. For single women, no more than two.
The youngest child must be at least 3 years old.

Travel and Time Frame

Travel

Adopting from China is a one-trip process about 12-14 days long.

Time Frame

Motivated families can complete the adoption in about 12 months.
There are about 2-3 months between referral and picking up the child.
Process

ADOPTION PROCESS

Apply to Children’s House International’s China Program.

Complete the Home Study Process with a CHI Social Worker or a Local Hague Accredited Social Worker.

Submit Approved Home Study.

Apply for I-800A Approval from USCIS.

Compile your dossier for China.

Obtain document certification at state, embassy, and Department of State levels. Authenticated documents are returned to CHI for dossier submission to China.

The dossier is uploaded to the online system, and a hard copy is sent to CCCWA for registration.

The family receives an official referral (Letter Seeking Confirmation) from China.

I-800 submitted and approval issued.
10

The family submits for a Chinese Visa. CHI submits DS-260 and consulate documents.

The family receives Article 5 approval and travel approval. A travel schedule is completed, and a consulate appointment is scheduled.

Family travels to China to bring their child home!
