About The Children

Children waiting in Honduras for forever families generally fall between 4 and 10 years of age. There are many sibling groups, especially those with older children or more than two siblings. Children with special needs are also in need of families. Children are cared for in public and private orphanages.

Eligibility

Heterosexual couples between 25 and 51 years of age and married for at least three years may adopt. There should be no more than15 years between the adoptive parents and child (from the youngest spouse).
Single women between 25 and 51 years of age are permitted to adopt.
Parents must be at least 15 years older than the child.
No more than two divorces per applicant.
Honduras prefers referring children to families with 3 children or less in the home but will consider larger families on a case by case basis.

Travel and Time Frame

The time frame from Referral: In general, it can take 1 to 6 years from when your dossier is received and approved by DINAF.

Time Frame

Option 1: Three separate trips ranging from 1-2 weeks for each visit.
Option 2: Two separate trips: 1st trip about 7- 10 days and 2nd trip 4-5 weeks.
Process

ADOPTION PROCESS

CHI has worked with adoptions in Latin America for 25 years and in Honduras for about 5 years.  Our team in Honduras has many years of experience and takes great care of our families from start to finish.  CHI’s International Specialist is an adoptive mom and also has over 20 years of experience.  She is bilingual and will be available should you have any questions before and during your stay.   We look forward to helping you adopt from Honduras!

Apply to Children’s House International’s Honduras Program.

Complete the Home Study Process with a CHI Social Worker or a Local Hague Accredited Social Worker.

Submit Approved Home Study.

Apply for I-800A Approval from USCIS.

Compile your dossier for Honduras.

Obtain Apostille seals for dossier documents and send the dossier to CHI.

Your completed dossier will be sent to Honduras for translation and authentication seals. It will then be submitted to DINAF (Direcciόn de Ninez, Adolescencia y Familia, the central authority) for review and approval.

Once you receive approval, you will be entered onto a national waiting list for a referral.

The DINAF will provide the referral to CHI, who will then send the referral to you.

Once a referral has been accepted, the family will travel to Honduras to meet the child.

About 2 to 4 months after the trip, both parents must travel to Honduras to complete and sign the appropriate paperwork.

During the final trip, the court process is completed, adoptive parents take custody of the child, and the U.S. visa process is completed at the U.S. Consulate.

After the child’s passport is issued, the family is allowed to travel home.
